Design and Plan Reflection

Design:
We have all contributed to the design of our web page. We each had different ideas for the design of our web page and we did it on paper as a story board and we talked about it. We have thought a lot about how our web page is going to look, including picture choice and the color scheme. The theme we chose for our web page is called 'modern', we chose it because it was not to extravagant and it was plain enough that we could change the color scheme and pictures. Overall, I think that we designed well and we cooperated with each other in sharing ideas and in result our web page looks good.

Plan:
I estimate that we used about 8 days working on this web page however we are not done yet.
step by step:
  • choose the theme
  • write the information
  • get the pictures
  • get the videos
  • finishing touches
  • make it live
The list above is how our website is going to be created step by step. I think that our plan is detailed enough but we more thought into how we are going to make the webpage. I don't think it could be followed by someone else because you have to know personally about it and you have to have experience with it. We have used all the resources to our advantage, like the links to the red cross site and the website about how to make a webpage. We are almost finished with our webpage, and we have pnly have a few more things to do which shows that we calculated our tim well.

Analysis of Webpage

The web page that we took our information:

http://www.nssl.noaa.gov/edu/safety/tornadoguide.html

This site has colorful fonts which is attractive to the eye. And all the fonts are the right sizes (titles, information, , subtitles). Also some of the paragraphs are highlighted which shows different style choices and a lot of thought into the sites. It also has diagrams and pictures which is interesting and helps us understanding. It also has a lot of writing and information about our subject 'tornadoes' which is very helpful to us, I think it's a usable site. It has space between paragraph and since all the information is on the left side the space is mostly on the right, in short, it has good spacing. All of the information and pictures in the site are very clear which shows that it has good clarity. The consistency of the site is good, everything seems to belong together and matches. Overall, I think the site is very compelling.

TORNADOES

Tornadoes are a natural disaster that effect the environment of a society. They are a rotating column of air which touches the earth and the clouds. They are a result of high winds forming together in a violent motion. Tornadoes come in many sizes but normally are in the shape of a condensation funnel. Tornadoes are known to occur on every continent except Antarctica.

Most Tornadoes have the wind speed of 40 mph to 110 mph. They are about 250 feet wide, but it depends on the wind speed and the area in which the tornado is approaching.

What Causes Tornadoes?
Thunderstorms can be cause by cold air moving eastward through an area that is very warm and moist. These types of storms can cause hail, strong winds and tornadoes. Tornadoes occur in the winter and early spring with strong winds in the central States and move east. Large outbreaks come with this type of weather patterns. Usually a tornado comes after tropical storms and hurricanes that move over land.

Tornado Safety:
There are ways to prepare yourself for a tornado.

Before the storm:
You need to have a plan for your family in case there is an emergency. Have drills once a month so your family can practice what to do in the event of a tornado. You should know the area where you live and keep a highway map in your house to follow storm movement. You should buy a weather radio with an alarm system and a backup battery pack to receive warnings.

If the tornado approaches:
Move to a basement if you are in a house or building. If you don't have a basement move into a hall or under a piece of furniture. You should stay away from windows and automobiles. do not try to run away from the tornado in your car, instead get out of it immediately. If you live in a mobile home, abandon it because it isn't a safe place to hide from a tornado.
